Following the issuance of guidelines on the validity of the power of attorney documents effective as of June 25, 2024, and Decision No. 60 on the reduction of the official fees for various services effective as from July 11, 2024, the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry has officially declared the following updates:
- Power of Attorney (POA):
- The validity of the POA is now limited to three years.
- The duly legalized POA up to the Qatari Consulate in the applicant’s country should be further super legalized up to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet the legal local requirements.
- A legal Arabic translation of the POA should be certified by an approved local translation office in Qatar.
- Official Fees Reductions:
- Revised Filing and Examination Fees will be paid as a single fee upon filing.
- Revised Publication and Grant Fees will be paid as a single fee upon acceptance.
- 2nd Annual Fee and/or accumulated annuities are no longer automatically paid at the time of filing, they must be paid separately after filing the application.
These changes aim to streamline the patent application process and reduce the financial burden on applicants.
