On July 9, 2025, H.E. Dr. Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, took part in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) High-Level Dialogue held in Geneva, titled “Shaping the Future of Innovation”. The event brought together ministers, experts, and international organizations to discuss ways to foster innovation and knowledge-driven economies worldwide.
During his address, Dr. Al-Sayed highlighted Qatar’s dedication to innovation as a central pillar of its national development, aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024–2030). He emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance the business environment, improve productivity, and strengthen partnerships between public and private sectors.
Dr. Al-Sayed also reviewed Qatar’s achievements in intellectual property, including the strategic partnership with WIPO, marked by a significant Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2023 aimed at empowering small and medium enterprises to integrate IP rights into their growth strategies. Additionally, Qatar’s recent accession to the Madrid Protocol in May 2024, effective August 2024, was noted as a milestone simplifying trademark registration for global investors.
On the sidelines, Dr. Al-Sayed met with WIPO Director General Mr. Daren Tang to discuss collaborative initiatives, including Qatar’s plans to host a high-profile conference focused on alternative dispute resolution, intellectual property protection, and innovation’s role in attracting foreign direct investment, all supporting Qatar’s Vision 2030 goals.
Dr. Al-Sayed also reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to building a comprehensive IP ecosystem that fuels sustainable economic growth and innovation leadership.
