Saudi Arabia Approves Four New Intellectual Property Laws
Saudi Arabia has taken a step towards reforming its intellectual property (IP) framework following the Council of Ministers’ approval of four new laws at a meeting held in Riyadh on October 20, 2026.
According to the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), the new laws cover:
- Patents and Utility Models
- New Plant Varieties
- Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits
- Industrial Designs
SAIP confirmed that the Designs Law has been aligned with the Riyadh Design Law Treaty, which Saudi Arabia has ratified.
The four areas are currently governed by a single law. Their separation into four distinct laws marks a change in the Kingdom’s IP legislative framework.
The full texts of the new laws, including their effective dates and transitional provisions, have yet to be published.
