UAE and U.S. Sign Agreement to Speed Up Patent Approvals
The United Arab Emirates and the United States have signed a joint agreement to accelerate patent approvals in the UAE. Announced during the 66th WIPO Assemblies in Geneva, the deal establishes a cooperation framework allowing the UAE to consider favorable examination results from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for related Emirati applications.
Signed by the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism and the USPTO, the agreement supports faster, more efficient patent processing in line with UAE laws. UAE Minister Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri highlighted that the initiative reflects the country’s commitment to strengthening its intellectual property system and fostering innovation.
The partnership aims to streamline patent procedures, encourage investment in knowledge-based sectors, and reinforce the UAE’s role as a regional hub for intellectual property protection.
