Qatar talks IP & Trade at the global stage

As part of Qatar’s strategic efforts to reinforce its international economic presence, His Excellency Dr. Ahmad bin Mohamed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, held a series of high-level meetings with senior officials from leading global organizations during his visit to Geneva.
The bilateral meetings reflect Qatar’s continued commitment to global trade cooperation, economic resilience, and innovation-led development in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Dr. Al-Sayed met with:
- Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), to discuss current challenges in global trade, including tariff structures, service flows, intellectual property, and the future of multilateral trading systems.
- Mr. Børge Brende, President of the World Economic Forum, where both sides addressed geopolitical and economic shifts, resilience in global supply chains, and strategies for sustainable growth.
- Mr. Pedro Manuel Moreno, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), to review economic indicators, regional investment trends, and Qatar’s role in bilateral and multilateral trade agreements.
These discussions underscored Qatar’s proactive approach to shaping future trade policies, supporting institutional reforms, and leveraging innovation and intellectual property as key tools for long-term economic competitiveness. As part of this strategy, Qatar continues to enhance its IP ecosystem to align with international standards and foster a climate that protects and promotes innovation.
As Qatar continues to develop its position as a global business and innovation hub, these strategic dialogues play a crucial role in strengthening international partnerships, encouraging foreign direct investment, supporting sustainable economic diversification, and reinforcing intellectual property as a pillar of its national growth agenda.
