
Saudi Arabia Approves New Copyright Law to Enhance IP Protection
The Council of Ministers, chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, approved the new Copyright Law as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the protection of creators and raise protection standards in line with modern developments. The new law aims to provide more effective legal safeguards for authors and holders of related rights, while addressing the rapid growth of digital technologies and online content circulation.
The law introduces updated enforcement mechanisms, stricter penalties for infringements, and a balanced framework that protects intellectual property rights while supporting the public interest, research, education, and innovation. It also regulates related rights, clarifies exceptions and limitations, and establishes clearer procedures for resolving civil disputes. The approval reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to fostering creativity, supporting the digital economy, and strengthening the intellectual property ecosystem in line with national development goals.
