Bahrain to Adopt the Locarno Classification for Industrial Designs
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Kingdom of Bahrain has announced the implementation of the Locarno Agreement Establishing an International Classification for Industrial Designs, effective 29 October 2026, the date on which the Agreement enters into force for Bahrain.
The Locarno Classification aims to standardize the classification of products in respect of which industrial design applications are filed, helping to organize procedures and facilitate search, examination, and registration processes, while further aligning Bahrain’s industrial property protection framework with international standards and practices.
The classification will apply to industrial design applications filed on or after 29 October 2026, with submissions processed through Bahrain’s Industrial Property Online Services Portal. This initiative represents a further step towards aligning Bahrain’s industrial property framework with international standards and practices.
