Saudi Arabia Approves National Intellectual Property Policy
The policy aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s intellectual property ecosystem and support a prosperous, knowledge- and innovation-based economy.
The Saudi Cabinet has approved the National Intellectual Property Policy, which aims to regulate and develop intellectual property in the Kingdom in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and its goal of building a prosperous economy based on knowledge and innovation.
The policy establishes a framework of principles and general directions aimed at strengthening the Kingdom’s intellectual property ecosystem and Saudi Arabia’s position as a global destination for innovation and creativity. It seeks to maximize the value of intangible assets, stimulate foreign investment, and support research and development, innovation, and industrial growth.
The policy addresses key areas across the intellectual property ecosystem, including education and awareness, IP generation and creativity, the registration and management of intellectual property rights, respect for and enforcement of intellectual property rights, and the commercialization of intellectual property.
It also supports the effective management of intellectual property, technology transfer and localization, scientific research and university outputs, greater public awareness of intellectual property, and the development of national capabilities in the intellectual property field.
The approval of the National Intellectual Property Policy represents an important step in strengthening Saudi Arabia’s intellectual property ecosystem and reinforcing the role of intellectual property in supporting innovation and the Kingdom’s knowledge-based economy.
