Jordan Climbs Seven Spots in 2023 Global Innovation Index
The latest Global Innovation Index report reveals that Jordan has ascended from 78th in 2022 to 71st out of 132 countries in 2023 and stood at the 8th position regionally on the index.
This index, jointly released by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Portulans Institute, provides a comprehensive measure of a country’s innovation capabilities and performance.
Switzerland, Sweden, and the United States secured the leading three positions on this index, while the countries with the lowest performance included Angola, Niger, and Burundi.
In the broader Arab world context, the UAE led at 32nd globally, followed by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Morocco, with Jordan closely following at 71st globally and at the 8th position regionally on the index.
Globally, Switzerland maintained its leading position for the 13th consecutive year, with Sweden, the USA, the UK, and Singapore completing the top five.
Jordan’s progress on the Global Innovation Index 2023 can be attributed to enhanced performance in sub-indicators categorized under the innovation inputs pillar. Notably, substantial advancements were made in the business environment and infrastructure indicators, with each showing a notable improvement of 15 positions.
Jordan also maintained its improved performance in sub-indicators related to the innovation outputs pillar, particularly in the creative output’s indicator, where it made a noteworthy leap of 13 positions between 2021 and 2023, according to reports from the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
