European Patent Office Transitions to Electronic Filing as a Unified Portal
The European Patent Office (EPO) announced that it has officially discontinued the traditional Online Filing (eOLF) desktop software and adopted Online Filing 2.0 as its standard filing tool. As of 1 January 2026, all patent applications and related submissions must be filed exclusively through this web-based system.
Online Filing 2.0 operates entirely via an internet browser without requiring software installation, supporting the EPO’s goal of full digitalization of patent procedures by 2027 and improving accessibility, efficiency, and user experience.
