SUDAN-RESTARTING OPERATIONS AT THE SUDANESE TRADEMARKS OFFICE
This is to advise that the office of the Registrar General of Intellectual Property (RGIP) at the Sudan Ministry of Justice, issued a circular regarding the resumption of its trademark activities.
The RGIP Circular was addressed to all Trademark agents, active attorneys and all individuals concerned, advising them that RGIP shall resume trademarks activities as of 11/Feb/2024.
The office of RGIP was relocated temporarily to the coastal city of Port Sudan due to the unstable circumstances in the capital Khartoum.
The Circular states that the Temporary office of RGIP will only receive new applications for various Trademarks purposes (registration, renewal, recordal of assignments, mergers, and changes of name and/or addresses). The conclusion of the procedures for all applications filed after 11/Feb/2024 will be deferred up until the temporary office of RGIP succeeds in retrieving its database.
The operation of the Temporary office of RGIP, shall be online and paperless, all filings and supporting documents are to be sent through an email address set up specifically for this purpose.
We point that since the office of RGIP promulgated the circular on 03/Feb/2024, the internet and mobile services have been cut off from all Sudan (including the coastal city of Port Sudan the location of the temporary office of RGIP) and was reconnected late in the evening of 12/February/2024 i.e after the date stipulated by Circular expired.
Accordingly, we expect a new date to be fixed by RGIP for resuming its Trademarks activities.
We will keep monitoring the situation and we will report to you all developments promptly in due course.
